Values are a key part in our lives. Especially, in our Coaching Practices. In this article, I will go over how to use your Values to Transform your Purpose into Profit.
What are Values?
Before we get started, it’s important to have a clear picture of what values are. Ethicsage.com refers to them as:
Values are basic and fundamental beliefs that guide or motivate attitudes or actions. They help us to determine what is important to us. Values describe the personal qualities we choose to embody to guide our actions.https://www.ethicssage.com/2018/08/what-are-values.html
Values are what drive purposeful action. When we are not aligned with our values, we can feel like we have a lack of purpose.
Here are some examples of values:
Aligning with Your Values
Having defined values allows us to have clarity and to know if we are aligned. For example, my values include trust, happiness, and balance. I have many more but for the sake of this exercise those are my 3.
- Grab a Piece of Paper and Pen/Pencil
- Write your 3 Top Values on there
- Make 3 Columns with these Categories- Work, Relationships, Self
- Write down the ways in which you live your values and don’t in each category
- Journal on this Prompt: “How can I start aligning with my values in the areas I don’t?”
- Be Kind to yourself, it’s okay if you don’t live your values right now. The purpose of this activity is to help you identify and you can choose to take action aftwerwards.
If you do choose to take action, list 3 ways you can start realigning with your values. Work, Relationships, and self are broad categories. Narrow it down to to more specific areas.
For example, I notice that my work and life balance is still somewhat off. In order to do this I will keep my work boundaries set and stay under 40 hours a week. Maintaining two days off.
Repeat this with each value.
A vision board is another great way to keep your life’s vision in align with what you want.
The Importance of Values
When you are living your purpose, then you are aligned with your values. Purpose is created from our values. When we are going against them, it cause stress in the body and saps our energy. This can lead to anxiety, depression, and even manifest itself physically. I know when I’m out of balance my right shoulder starts to bother me. Especially, when I am overworking myself.
Listen to your body, it is a great indicator for a lot of different things (including your values).
Turn Your Purpose into Profit
After you have identified your values and created an action plan, allow those values to guide your coaching practice. You can even incorporate it into your mission and vision statements. Vocalize it. Create your brand from your truest alignment.
The reason I mention this is because it allows you to be truly authentic and fulfilled by doing what is aligned for you and your business. Coaching is a business whether we like to say it or not. Is your current service and brand aligned with you? If not, it may be time to make a change into something more aligned. Abundance radiates from you when you are truly aligned. This is your time to be abundant if you aren’t already.
